Creutzers ground beetle ( Carabus creutzeri ) is a kind of genuine beetle ( Carabus ).

Features

Creutzers beetle reaches a body length of 20 to 30 mm, making it one of the major species of beetle in Europe. Its body is dark brown to black in color and has a shiny reddish- purple sheen on the wing covers ( elytra ) and the sides of the pronotum on. The point pits on the elytra are colored reddish- purple. The elytra are relatively flat on the body, the pronotum and head are built narrow.

From the very closely related Fabricius ' ground beetle ( Carabus Fabricius ) is Creutzers beetles differs mainly by the very long first antennal segment, which is almost three times as long as broad. In addition, the elytra of Fabricius beetles usually have broad, dull emerald- green margins. From the ravine forest ground beetles ( Carabus irregularis ) are both distinguished by details of the mouthparts.

Dissemination

The Beetle comes in Central Europe only in the southeast of Austria, Carinthia and East Tyrol ago. He is also found in Slovenia.

Way of life

Creutzers beetles is mainly found in the cooler mountain areas and is classified accordingly as alpine and montane. Its habitat is located in mountain forests, where it is found in dead wood or under loose bark and moss mats baumbewachsenden.
