Caradog ap Bran

Caradawg fab Bran [ va ː b ka'radaug bra ː n], also Cradawg, is the name of a legendary figure from the Welsh Mabinogion collection of myths.

Mythology

Caradawg fab Bran Branwen ferch Llyr in the narrative ( " Branwen, the daughter Llŷrs " ), the " second branch of the Mabinogi ," a son of the king Bran the Blessed. When he sets out on his expedition to Ireland to his sister to come rests opposite her husband Matholwch to help, he can Caradawg back as governor ( pennaf cynweisiad, " superintendent " ) in Wales.

Together with six companions, he managed the land until Caswallawn, Brans cousin, wants to usurp the throne. Under the protection of a Tarngewandes Caswallawn murdered all companions Caradawgs spared this, because he is his nephew, and conquered so the rule. Caradawg dies because of the loss of his friends from a broken heart.

In the Trioedd Ynys Prydein ( " The Triads of the Island of Britain " ) Caradawg was therefore called "one of the three overseers of the Island of Britain " and as " one of the three men who broke the heart of grief ."

He is also sometimes associated with the Britannic King Caratacus, but there is no evidence to support this theory.
