Caraguatatuba is a Brazilian coastal city of about 90,000 inhabitants in the state of São Paulo ( SP), about 100 km north-east of Santos and 200 km from São Paulo. Just behind the coastal plain, the up to 1,200 m high Serra do Mar is piling up. About the Rodovia dos Tamoios (SP -099 ), a beautiful winding road, the height difference to the plateau behind it is overcome. The town was founded in the early 17th century.
