Caranguejeira is a comune ( Freguesia ) at the Portuguese circuit ( concelho ) of Leiria. 4697 inhabitants live in it (as at 30 June 2011).
History
The community was created by cleavage of the community Espite in the 16th century. 2001, the place to Vila ( town ) has been charged.
Culture and sights
In addition to the primary school, a stone cross and the chapel Ermida de São Bartolomeu, include the 18th-century parish church Igreja de Paroquial Caranguejeira ( Igreja de São Cristóvão also ) to the architectural heritage of the community.
Management
Caranguejeira is the seat of a municipality of the same name. The neighboring municipalities are ( starting in the north clockwise) Colmeias, Memória, Espite, Matas, Cercal, Arrabal, Pousos, Eufémia and Boa Vista.
