Caranus of Macedon

Karanos (Greek Κάρανος ) to have been the first king of Macedon. However, its historicity is very controversial in the research, which is why the following statements should be considered with caution. He is said to have reigned in the early 8th century BC and was said to be the founder of the dynasty of Argeaden.

Karanos to have been the son of Aristodamidas, king of Argos from the House of Temeniden according to tradition. As Aristodamidas died, Pheidon took over the rule over Argos and drove Karanos. Karanos went to Delphi and consulted the oracle. The oracle said he 'll out of goats find a kingdom. So he went to Macedonia. He pursued a herd of goats, who fled before a storm, and thus came to Edessa in Emathia. Edessa, he made it his capital and named it Aegae (from ancient Greek. Αίξ = goat or αιγίς = storm ). Karanos waged wars against its neighbors and was the first who united all the peoples of Macedonia in a realm.

A legend tells that he had built after his victory over Kisseus, a neighboring king, a memorial of victory, as it was customary in Argos. Then be a Lion descended from Mount Olympus and had destroyed it. Karanos recognized by reference to the gods, that one should not build Siegesmäler if you want to end a dispute peacefully. What he ordered it to refrain in the future. Even Alexander the Great is said to have still kept it.

Karanos to be his son Koinos succeeded, but he also may not have been historically.
