He was the father of Keisos, Kerynes, Phalces, Agelaus, Agraios, Eurypylos, Callias, Isthmios, Klytos and Hyrnetho. He was the great-grandson of Heracles and led the army of the Dorians in the conquest of the Peloponnese ( return of Heracleidae ).

After an oracle should succeed the Heracleidae to conquer the Peloponnese, when they would start by Naupaktos from the expedition. Therefore Temenos collected an army there and built a fleet. But since Hippotes, the son of Phylas, killed a seer, the ships were destroyed and the army had to go hungry. Another oracle demanded the banishment of the guilty, and a three-eyed commander. Hippotes was exiled and in Oxylus, son of Andraemon, they found the three-eyed leader, since he himself had lost an eye and therefore ridden on a horse came.

Now finally succeeded to conquer the Peloponnese. By lot the land was divided among the sons of Aristomachos and Aristodemus. Temenos was king of Argos, which was previously ruled by Tisamenus. Now as supreme commander he appointed Deiphontes, the husband of his daughter Hyrnetho. As the sons of Temenos feared Deiphontes could subsequently be king of Argos, they killed her father and drove Hyrnetho and her husband.

Temenos was near Argos, buried at a place which was named after him Temenes. Temenos is the founder of the royal family of Temeniden, of which the Macedonian royal house of Argeaden derived.
