The Smooth sedge ( Carex laevigata ) is a native of Central Europe Seggenart ( Carex ). It is a different eared sedge.

Description

The Smooth sedge is a perennial plant, forming short runners. It is 50 to 90 (rarely 120) cm high. The stems are erect or ascending, triangular, smooth, and bear leaves. The leaves are mostly about 10 mm wide, light green, smooth and shorter than the stems. You have a long ligule. The abdominal wall of the vagina has a trockenhäutiges appendage. The basal leaf sheaths are shiny yellow-brown.

There is a male spikelets, rarely two. The three or four female spikelets are dichtblütig and partly about 3 cm long, with no more than five times as long as wide. You stand upright, the lower slightly nodding. All spikelets are stalked and are removed. Their stems are not enclosed by the bracts. They have long sheaths and are shorter than the inflorescence.

The bracts are reddish brown and have a green center strip. They are lanceolate, pointed, and slightly shorter than the fruit. The pen bears three scars. Flowering time is April and May.

The fruit is 4-5 mm long, glabrous and multicore. It is egg-shaped and biconvex and tapers slowly into the beak. He is finely toothed on the edges, bald and wears two borstliche tips.

Occurrence

The species is native to Europe and is a submeridionales to tempe rates, euozeanisches Florenelement. It occurs mainly in Western Europe and even extends to West Eifel, Eifel snow, Venn, Hunsrück and Westerwald. It grows in alder forests and pastures and swamps.
