Carl August Liner

Carl August Liner ( born June 8, 1871 in St. Gallen, † March 20, 1946 in Appenzell ) was a Swiss painter, draftsman, printmaker and inventor.

Life

Carl August Liner came from a rich family of craftsmen, studied from 1890 to 1893 when Johann Caspar Herterich ( painting class ) and Paul Hoecker ( plein air painting ) at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich, 1894 was a drawing teacher and illustrator in St. Gallen, traveled from 1897 to 1899 after Rome, Terracina and Paris. In 1901 it was from the Art Academy Dusseldorf offered a professorship, which he rejected, however. He married Cécile Bernet in 1902, acquired in 1906 on a farm Unterrainstrasse in Appenzell and St. Gallen in 1913 the section of the GSMBA (Society of Swiss painter and sculptor ), whose president he became. 1914 his son Carl Walter Liner († 1997) was born to him, who followed in his footsteps. In honor of the life's work of father and son, 1998, the Museum Liner Appenzell was opened.

The artistic work

Liner painted landscapes, rural people and especially children. He designed postage stamps and posters and illustrated magazines.
