Carl Davis

Carl Davis ( born October 28, 1936 in Brooklyn, New York City, New York) is an American composer.

Life

Carl Davis wrote the music for over 100 television series and is known for his dubbing of silent films. Thus he was able in 1979 to celebrate a great success with the dubbing of Napoléon by Abel Gance. For his film music for The French Lieutenant's 1981, he was awarded a British Academy Film Award and a Grammy nomination. He was appointed Artistic Director and Conductor of the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra in 1993. To mark the 150th anniversary of the founding of the orchestra he co-wrote with Paul McCartney Liverpool Oratorio the honor of Liverpool.

In addition to his work as a composer for film and television, for example in the book Eva - Ticket to Paradise (2002), Davis also composed for ballet and radio plays. So the song cycle " Last Train to Tomorrow " was first performed in Manchester on 17 May 2012, commissioned by the Hallé Orchestra, dedicated to the " Kindertransport ." In 2003 he received the British Academy Film Award for his life's work, and in July 2005 he was honorary appointed by the British Queen Elizabeth II as a Commander of the British Empire.

Although he has kept his U.S. citizenship, he has lived for over 20 years in London and is married to British actress Jean Boht, with whom he has two daughters.
