Carl Kaiserling

Johann Carl Emperor Ling ( born February 3, 1869 in Wehlheiden, † June 20, 1942 in Berlin- Zehlendorf ) was a German pathologist.

Life

Emperor Ling studied in Munich, Kiel and Berlin. He originally wanted to be a zoologist, but then felt attracted by Rudolf Virchow. In 1893 he became a Doctor of Medicine with the treatise The Mikrometrie and its application to the determination of the changes in size of the red blood cells of some vertebrates by various additional fluids ... (Berlin 1893). In 1902 he became a Privatdozent at the Friedrich Wilhelm University in Berlin in 1912 and an associate professor of pathological anatomy.

In 1913, he joined as a full professor of general pathology and pathological anatomy at the University of Königsberg and was also became director of the pathological institute. 1927/28, he was rector of the Alma Mater. After his retirement on April 1, 1935, he moved to Berlin, where he died in 1942.

He is the creator of a preservative fluid for pathological collection preparations which permanently gets the colors. Emperor Ling is considered the founder of Mikrometrie.

His son Helmut Kaiser Ling (* April 6, 1906; † 13 March 1989) was also pathologist.
