Carl Maria von Bocklet

Carl Maria von Booklet ( born January 30, 1801 in Prague, † July 15, 1881 in Vienna ) was an Austrian pianist, violinist, composer and music teacher.

Life and work

V. Booklet was in Prague composition student at Friedrich Dionys Weber and also studied violin and piano. In Vienna, he came into contact with Ludwig van Beethoven, who campaigned for him. In 1820, worked v. Booklet as a music teacher in Vienna and since 1821 was briefly first violinist in the orchestra of the Theater an der Wien, but then increasingly active only as a pianist. With Franz Schubert he was acquainted, and led several of his piano works, partly as the first, publicly, including the Wanderer-Fantasie D 760 Schubert dedicated his Piano Sonata in D major, D. 850 In addition, he was considered an excellent improviser. After the first strip published in 1835 by the Austrian National - Encyklopadie v. Booklet was then called " the first among the now living piano virtuoso Vienna 's".

In the 1840s drew v. Booklet largely from active concert life back. A private school founded by him for four-hand piano led his son Henry on. At Carl Maria von Bocklet's pupils was, among other Eduard Marxsen, for its part, later teacher of Johannes Brahms.

By Carl Maria von Bocklet some piano compositions have survived. His Opus 1 was a variation on a waltz Anton Diabelli; this had inspired numerous composers to write variations on a waltz own and published Patriotic Association of Artists under the title.
