Carl-Olof Nylén

Carl -Olof Nylén, actually Carl -Olof Siggeson Nylén, called " Olle " (* June 30, 1892 in Uppsala, † October 2, 1978 in Stocksund ) was a Swedish otolaryngologist and tennis player.

Life and work

During his medical studies Nylén gained initial success in tennis. At the Summer Olympics in Stockholm in 1912 represented Nylén, together with Carl Wennergren ( 1889-1978 ), his country. In the mixed doubles Nylén played with Edith Arnheim ( 1884-1964 ).

1915, 1916, 1917 and 1925 won Nylén the Swedish Tennis Championships.

Between 1935 and 1958 worked as Nylén otologist at Uppsala University. He used as a first monocular microscope ( monocular vision) during an operation and is therefore considered as the 'father' of microsurgery.
