Carl Skottsberg

Carl Johan Fredrik Skottsberg ( born December 1, 1880 in Karlshamn, † June 14, 1963 in Gothenburg ) was a Swedish botanist and explorer of Antarctica. Its official botanical author abbreviation is " Skottsb. ".

Skottsberg studied 1898-1907 at Uppsala University, where he taught also. From 1901 to 1903 he took part in the Swedish Antarctic Expedition under Otto Nordenskiöld. From 1907 to 1909 he headed the Swedish expedition to Patagonia.

He was from 1909 to 1914 curator of the Botanical Museum of the University of Uppsala. From 1919 he was director of the botanical garden.

Skottsberg was a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences and a foreign member in 1950 ( "Fellow" ) of the Royal Society. In 1959 he was awarded the Linnean Medal of the Linnean Society of London.
