Carl Svante Hallbeck

Carl Svante Hall Beck ( born April 14, 1826 in Gothenburg, † December 17, 1897 in Everett, United States) was a Swedish illustrator and painter.

Hall Beck worked as a trade journeyman until 1846 and then began studying at the Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen. After the successful completion of his studies, he moved back to Sweden in 1851. In the following years he created many drawings, which were used as templates for woodcuts, which were then displayed in the Swedish, Danish and German newspapers or books. His clients included the Ny Illustrerad Tidning, which he co-founded in 1865. He was also present in the magazine Svenska Familj journals and in the yearbook Svea. In 1887 he moved to the USA where he devoted himself increasingly watercolors. At the same time he continued to provide contributions to the Swedish press under the signature Svante.
