Carl Zehr

Carl Zehr ( born 1945 in Baden, Ontario) is the mayor of the city of Kitchener in the Canadian province of Ontario, which was called Berlin until 1916. He is married, has two adult children and four grandchildren.

Career

After visiting the Mennonite College in Kitchener and District High School Waterloo - Oxford in 1972, he received approval as an auditor (CGA ). In this role he was, inter alia, worked with Mercedes Developments in Hospital Kitchener-Waterloo and the University of Waterloo. 1981-1988 he was a partner of the law firm " Mercer, Hildebrand and Zehr ".

Political career

1985-1994 he was a town councilor of Kitchener. 1988-1994 he was also the Regional Council of Waterloo. Since 1997 he has been Mayor of Kitchener. Four times he was re-elected. He is the longest-serving mayor and one of the longest serving mayors in Canada. Zehr 1990 ran for the Ontario Liberal Party in Kitchener- Wilmot in the provincial election, but lost to the candidate of the Ontario New Democratic Party, Mike Cooper.

As mayor he was responsible for the improvement of the infrastructure of the city and the quality of life of its residents by municipal institutions, health and recreation centers, environmental projects and through the promotion of art and culture. About Canada's borders Kitchener is famous for its annual Oktoberfest, the second largest in Munich.

For his work as mayor and for his charitable activity Zehr received numerous awards.
