Carlo Farina

Carlo Farina (* 1600 in Mantua, † 1639 in Vienna ) was an Italian violinist, composer and conductor.

Life

His first training was Farina presumably by his father, who at the Gonzaga court in Mantua was a " sonatore di viola". There he will likely get further instruction by the violinist Salamone Rossi and Giovanni Battista Buonamente. From 1626 to 1629 he worked for three years as concertmaster in Dresden. There he worked with Heinrich Schütz, who gave him compositional impulses. Farina described himself in 1626 as " sonatore di Violino dell'Serenissimo Elettore the Saxony " ( John George I of Saxony ). From 1629 to 1631 he was an outstanding member of the electoral court orchestra in Bonn, until he returned to Italy and to 1635 in Parma and later in Lucca worked. In 1635 he had an appointment at the court of the Prince of Massa. Between 1636 and 1637 his appointment by the City Council of Gdansk was known. From 1638 worked in Vienna, where he died in the summer of 1639.

Farina was an outstanding violinist and has many effects built into his " Capriccio Stravagante " such as Katzengejaule, barking dogs, crowing of the cock, Hühnergackern, soldiers drum and Landsknecht flute and Spanish guitar. To this end, Farina gives precise instructions for execution, such as:
