Carlo Giorgio Garofalo

Carlo Giorgio Garofalo (* August 5, 1886 in Rome, † April 6, 1962 ) was an Italian composer and organist.

Garofalo studied at the Collegio Vaticano in Rome at Stanslao Falchi, Cesare de Sanctis, Remigio Renzi and Salvatore Saija. After graduation, he spent two years as a church music director in Boston. Together with Saija he had 22 years held the position of organist at the Great Synagogue of Rome. In addition to religious works Garofalo wrote a number of comic operas, orchestral and instrumental works, however, were hardly known. His Romantic Symphony experienced after its premiere in 1915 until 1994 their second full performance with the Moscow Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Joel Spiegelman. The inclusion of works from 1999 was released by the label Marco Polo, together with Garofalo's Violin Concerto, which was played by Sergei Stadler.
