Carlos Alhinho

Carlos Alexandre Fortes Alhinho ( born January 10, 1949 in São Vicente, † 31 May 2008 in Benguela ) was a Cape verdisch - Portuguese football player and coach.

Career

Carlos Alhinho was born in Cape Verde. Since 1968, he played football in Portugal. In his playing days, he was one of the few players who were in all three big clubs in Portugal, Sporting Lisbon, FC Porto and Benfica under contract. With Sporting he won in 1974, with Benfica in 1977 and 1981 the championship. In 1973 and 1974, winning the Cup with Sporting, 1980 and 1981, and the Supercup 1980 added with Benfica. A trip to Real Betis Sevilla was unsuccessful in the 1975/76 season, Alhinho not contest a play for the club.

15 times Alhinho was appointed to the selection of Portugal. His first game he made March 28, 1973 in a 1-1 draw against Northern Ireland during the qualification for the World Cup 1974 in the Federal Republic of Germany. The last game he played in the 1-3 defeat against Brazil on 5 May 1982. Goal he scored during the time any more than he could take part in a World Cup or European Championship.

After his playing career was Alhinho coach and managed the national teams of Cape Verde and Angola. He had a fatal accident in a hotel in the Angolan Benguela, when he fell into an empty elevator shaft. At the time he was in negotiations because of a commitment as coach of the Angolan top club Primeiro de Maio.
