Carlos Gorostiza

Carlos Gorostiza ( born June 7, 1920 in Buenos Aires, Argentina) is an Argentine dramatist, theater director and novelist.

Life

Carlos Gorostiza was born a Basque- Argentine parents son in the affluent district of Palermo. He and his older brother had a happy childhood until her father left the family in 1926. The mother took a job at a fashion designer and Carlos had, even though he was only six years old, earn money. 1931 married Senora Gorostiza again and still got a daughter who will be a reasonably successful actress later.

Through his stepfather, a Spanish -born playwright, learns Gorostiza know the theater. 1943 his first work, the puppet theater piece " La Clave encantada " is ( The Magic Key ) listed. " El puente " is about the tension between the different social classes in Buenos Aires and is partly based on Gorostizas own childhood experiences and the social decline after the separation of parents. The realistic piece gave Gorostiza a reputation in the vibrant theater scene of Buenos Aires. After a new production of Armando Discépolo at the Teatro Argentino, it was established in 1950 under the direction of Gorostiza also filmed.

After the success of El Puente, Gorostiza returns to theater directing, however, made ​​the audience after. He works temporarily at an advertising agency, but with the screenplay for Julio Saraceni's drama " Marta Ferrari " of 1956 returns his fame. 1958 " El pan de la locura " premiered at the Teatro Cervantes. Gorostiza receives two awards and an invitation to the drama school of the University of Venezuela, where he teaches and together with Juana Sujo the play " Los Caobos " writes.

Over the next ten years Gorostiza focuses on the teaching and published only two new pieces. 1976 appears to be novel " Los cuartos oscuros " for which he was awarded the National Prize for Literature. After the military coup he loses his professorship at the University of Buenos Aires.

Become cautious due to the new political situation, but not deterred, Gorostiza published in 1978 his second novel " Los hermanos queridos ". The subtle criticism of the climate of fear brought him another National Award. After Argentina's return to democracy Gorostiza " Matar el tiempo " and " Hay que el fuego apagar ", for which he receives the " Gran Premio de Honor de Argentina gate " and the " Laurel de Plata " the Rotarian clubs published. In the 1983 election, he assisted Raúl Alfonsín, for which he created the slogan " Ahora, Alfonsín ". Alfonsín Gorostiza makes the Minister of Culture. In this post he supported the revival of the Argentine theater and film, despite the poor economy and a tight budget. Frustrated by the restrictions as a minister, he resigned in 1986.
