Carlos Martínez (infielder)

Carlos ' Café " Alberto Escobar Martínez ( born August 11, 1964 in La Guaira, Venezuela, † January 24, 2006 in Catia La Mar) was a Venezuelan baseball player.

Biography

Carlos Martinez began his career in his hometown of La Guaira at the age of 18 years. In the same year he was engaged by the New York Yankees as an amateur free agent. 1986 sold him the Yankees to the Chicago White Sox, for him came Ron Kittle to the Yankees. For the White Sox, he announced on September 2, 1988 his debut in the major leagues. Martinez was a right-handed batsman who played primarily as a first and third baseman. After the 1990 season he left the White Sox in the direction of the Cleveland Indians. The 1989 season was for him the most successful.

His last position in Major League Baseball were the California Angels. From there he returned to Venezuela, where he had to end his career, which was accompanied by many injuries, after the 1998 season. At the age of 41 years, he passed away after a long illness in his home country.
