Carlos Stella

Carlos Stella ( * 1961 in Buenos Aires ) is an Argentine composer.

Stella studied piano at the Conservatorio Nacional de Música in Buenos Aires and self-taught composition. He was invited by Krzysztof Penderecki 1985 to the Academy of Music in Krakow. Back in Buenos Aires, he received other grants from the Fondo Nacional de las Artes and the Antorchas Foundation and began at the Teatro del Sur with director Alberto Félix Alberto to work. He lived in Berlin since 1999.

His style is characterized by the combination of elements of different musical traditions, such as Gagaku, Noh and Kabuki, sequences and tropes, Ragam - tanam - pallavi, Baroque and Rococo, Kebyar, brass bands, thailandischem Piphat, circus music, Gamelan, Organa, Tango, Tibetan ritual music, etc., and by exploring the possibilities of variation, imitation, parody, assembly, transcription, copy, quote, paraphrase, trope and repetition. Also typical is his use of ideas such as the kaleidoscope, the maze of the mosaic, the spiral, the echo and mirror.
