Carlos Varela (footballer)

Carlos Varela ( born September 15, 1977 in A Laracha ) is a Spanish football player who is under contract with FC Köniz in the first league promotion.

Career

Varela played with 17 years at Servette Geneva ( 1995 to 1998). After half a year at FC Basel, he returned first for one season (1999/2000) to Servette back before he went back to Basel in July 2000. There he played until the end of the 2002/2003 season, in which he was even six times used in the UEFA Champions League. From 2003 to 2005 he played at FC Aarau, before joining the Young Boys 2005/ 2006. Overall, the versatile midfielder played more than 300 times in the first Swiss league and scored more than 40 goals. The Young Boys he wore the shirt number 19 on July 2 of 2006, Varela 's first goal on the new artificial turf at the Stade de Suisse Wankdorf in the 2-0 friendly win against Young Boys of the Tunisian champions Esperance Sportive de Tunis.

Varela is a talented player who can bring through his sprinter qualities the opposing defenses in embarrassment. However, he is also known for his emotional outbursts, he had after three games ( straight red) recognized in the 2008/ 09 season already three yellow cards and a sending off. This many experts see as one of the main reasons why Varela has not played up to today in one of the big leagues.

In August 2010, Varela broke his contract with Neuchâtel Xamax on with immediate effect after he last noticed repeated unsportsmanlike conduct and was occupied by a suspension of three games. After that he went to D.C. United to return in January 2011 to his first professional station Servette.

However, he played at the beginning of the 2011/12 season in the plans of coach João Alves is no longer relevant, which is why he moved to FC Wohlen in the Challenge League, where he has signed a contract until the end of the season. Wohlens coach Urs Schönberger Varela criticized the end of September in a Well magazine. This meant that Varela after three part inserts ( two in the championship and a cup match ) dissolved his contract. Now the footballer moved as a complete surprise to the Bernese regional club FC Köniz.
