Carlsberg Foundation

The Carlsberg Foundation, Danish Carlsbergfondet, is a foundation based in the Danish city of Copenhagen. It was founded in 1876 by ​​the Danish industrialist and philanthropist Jacob Christian Jacobsen, who left the Foundation for the establishment of the shares in he built brewery Carlsberg and later bequeathed his inheritance. According to his disposal, the Foundation holds up to the present, at least 51 percent of the shares in the brewery.

The Foundation was originally created for the financing of the Carlsberg Laboratory, a scientific research facility. Two years later, she took over the maintenance of the National Historic Museum at Frederiksborg Castle and after conversion of Jacobsen's private art collection in the museum Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek also its financing. Since 1931, the Foundation awards a scholarship named after Jacobsen. After the takeover of the Tuborg brewery by Carlsberg brewery in 1970, the Carlsberg Foundation since 1991 also continues the activities of the Tuborg Foundation, among which in particular the promotion of social projects and other activities with social benefit.
