Carluke

Carluke is a Scottish city. It lies between Lanark and Wishaw in the South Lanarkshire area and has about 13,590 inhabitants ( 2004 estimate ). Due to a direct train service from Glasgow, the city developed in the last decades to a commuter town.

Carluke in the city center has some small shops and supermarkets. The main shopping center, Carluke High Street, was built back to one-way street after she was for many years a pedestrian zone.

The city is the birthplace of three winners of the Victoria Cross ( William Angus, Thomas Caldwell and Donald Cameron ) and by General William Roy. Carluke is the known addition is the home of Scott's jam, the jam factory Renshaw Scott, the largest local employer.

The city has five elementary schools: Carluke Primary, High Mill Primary, Kirkton Primary, Primary and St Athanasius Primary Crawfordyke. The further Carluke High School was rebuilt on the existing site and re- opened in 2007.
