Carnarvon Basin

The Carnarvonbecken (English: Carnarvon Basin ) is a geological basins in the north-west of Western Australia, which was created when the North West Shelf of Australia was formed.

The mainland of Carnarvonbeckens covers an area of 115,000 km ² and the offshore area approximately 535,000 km ² with a water depth of up to 3,500 meters. The Carnarvonbecken is divided into two main areas in the Northern and Southern Carnarvonbecken Carnarvonbecken.

Named is the sedimentation basin after the 4th Earl of Carnarvon.

Northern Carnarvonbecken

The Northern Carnarvonbecken includes the Exmouth Plateau, Wombat Plateau (on the northern part of the Exmouth Plateau ), sub- basin Investigator, Rankin Platform, Exmouth Sub - Basin, Barrow Sub - Basin, Dampier Sub - Basin, Beagle Sub - Basin, Enderby Terrace, Peedamullah Shelf and Lambert Shelf.

The major sub- basins for the oil production will be around Dampier, Exmouth and Barrow Iceland.

Southern Carnarvonbecken

The Southern Carnarvonbecken includes the Gascoyne, Merlin Leigh, Bidgemia and Byro Sub - basin and the Bernier Platform and is flanked to the east of the Archaean Pilbara Block.
