Carnarvon Range

The Carnarvon Range is a mountainous country in central Queensland, Australia. It is a 160 km long plateau and part of the Great Dividing Range. It was first explored by the European explorer Ludwig Leichhardt and Thomas Livingstone Mitchell named it after Henry Herbert, 4th Earl of Carnarvon.

The eastern areas form a plateau, the Consuelo Tableland. There are a number of rare paintings of Aboriginal and impressive canyons of sandstone, including the Carnarvon Gorge. Large parts of the highlands protects the Carnarvon National Park.

The mountain country marks the northernmost extent of the Murray -Darling Basin. There spring from the Fitzroy River, the Warrego River, the Dawson River, the Merivale River and NogoA River.

The Palmfarnart Macrozamia moorei grows in the Carnarvon Range.
