Caro and Cuervo Institute

The Instituto Caro y Cuervo is a Colombian Research Institute of Literature, Philology and Linguistics, based in Santafe de Bogota. Its objective is the dissemination of a literary culture in Colombia. Critical issues, especially those of the Colombian authors, will be published by the Institute, its editorial policy gives priority especially the care of the cultural heritage.

Early as 1942, the Instituto was founded by the Colombian government through a law that promotes the continuation of philological studies, such as those for the Diccionario de Construcción y Régimen de la Lengua Castellana ( German: Encyclopedia of the word addition and the regimen of the Castilian language ) or those Rufino José Cuervo in Disquisiciones Filológicas ( German: Philological essays ).

In 1999, the Instituto Caro y Cuervo received the Prince of Asturias Preisfür communication sciences and humanities for the Diccionario de Construcción y Lengua Castellana de la Régimen, Rufino José Cuervo, the main work. This work was published in eight volumes from Barceloner publisher Editorial Herder and also brought out under the direction of Jordi Cortés Morató as CD -ROM.

Namesake of the institute are the Colombian president, scientist and philosopher Miguel Antonio Caro (1843-1909) and the Colombian writer Rufino José Cuervo ( 1844-1911 ).
