Carolyn Davidson

Carolyn Davidson is the developer of the Nike swoosh logo.

During her graphic design student at Portland State University in 1971, she commissioned the Nike founder Phil Knight with creating a character for a sports shoe. Knight, who worked as a lecturer in accounting at the University at that time, she asked to design a strip or a logo which radiated speed and movement. For a number of proposals Knight chose the one that represents the wing of the Greek goddess of victory Nike.

Davidson then received $ 35 for your design and worked on for the emerging business of Jeff Johnson and Philip Knight.

Once Nike had successfully established on the market, Davidson was invited in 1983 by her client. At this meeting she received a gold Swoosh ring with a diamond, a certificate and an unknown amount of Nike stock. After 29 years in the design industry, Davidson has now retired from their profession.

She has two children and lives in Portland, Oregon.
