Carpentarian dunnart

Sminthopsis butleri is a Beutelsäugerart from the kind of Schmalfuß Bag mice.

Description

These bags mice reach a body length of about 80 millimeters, the tail is about 90 millimeters longer. Their fur is gray on the top, belly, feet and chin are white.

Distribution and habitat

So far, only a few specimens have been found in northern Australia of this bag mouse, in the Kimberley region and on the Bathurst Island and Melville Island. All localities reported on sandy soils and were not far from the coast.

Way of life

Little is known about the way of life. Presumably it feeds, like other members of their species of insects and plants in the dry season continues.

Endangering

In the Kimberley region with no animals were out of three copies 1965/66 found the only Fund Melville Island is from 1913. IUCN lists the species as endangered ( vulnerable ), but this is out of date.
