History

Original scales are 1:32 ( Carrera Universal) and 1:24 ( Carrera 124). Mid-1970s, these two scales were supplemented by a system at a scale of 1:60, the " Carrera 160 ". In 1978 the product line further to include the track independent paths " Power 132 " and was " Power 160 " expanded, with the number indicating the scale here in the name. In 1979, " Power 140 " as well. In the early 1970s there were still Transpo Carrera, compatible for universal path on which you could solve various tasks with transport trucks. An aircraft and missile track Carrera Jet, there was also at this time, you could be on transparent rails simulate, for example, the moon flights NASA. These tracks are today among collectors the most sought after ever.

Due to the sharp decline in interest in car racing Carrera came in the first half of the 1980s financial problems that eventually led to the bankruptcy and corporate takeover. This meant, among other things, that the production of the former best-selling Carrera and Carrera Universal was set 124. Also, " Carrera 160 " and the various servo tracks ( which differed by the lack of guidance from the conventional track-bound systems ) were abandoned over time. Simply " power 140 " survived until the year 2000. As a replacement for the two classic track-bound systems in 1984, the system " Carrera professional" produced.

Since 1989, the racetracks are sold in the 1:24 scale, under the name " Carrera Exclusiv ", where initially only reissues of old models of the former Carrera 124 were produced, but did not reach the level of the old 124er vehicles of the quality. Since 1998 there is a new, very successful system in 1:32 scale with the designation " Carrera Evolution". Technically, the evolution system the driving current through two different from the old, also held in the 1:32 scale " universal " system in that the cars and tracks in the so-called " 2-wire " system ( get the cars right and left the guide slot ( "slot" ) attached to the conductor ) are carried out while the universal rails a third conductor in the slot had, which made it possible in conjunction with a special pantograph to the model cars, for example, with two cars to drive independently on one track.

Also Carrera Exclusiv 1:24 scale no longer has much in common with his new, detailed models with the initial 124er replicas, but remains fully compatible with all tracks and cars, the Carrera 124 Evolution and Exclusiv use the same rail material, this is in principle with the rails in 1967 introduced the Carrera 124 identical.

2001 Carrera has expanded its product family expanded with a car race track in 1:43 scale with the designation " Carrera GO! ". This system is characterized by its low price and space requirements.

At the Nuremberg Toy Fair 2004, the digital system Carrera Evolution PRO -X was introduced that allowed a driving four Evolution PRO -X cars on two tracks. This is made possible by the so-called Pro-X Black Box: On the two conductor tracks is permanently voltage; on the vehicles can be set an ID, so is the black box, if the controller is pressed, the coded to match vehicle. Also new are the lane change: Despite the " slot " system allows the track to change autonomously by the vehicle crosses a photodiode before the switch and pressing a second button on the hand controller, the switch is switched.

The development of PRO -X bears the name Carrera Digital 132 and was presented at the 2007 Toy Fair to the public. At the same time, " Carrera Profi" disappeared from the lists of offers. 2008 Carrera Exlusiv was replaced with Carrera Digital 124 and Digital 143 Carrera introduced as an additional product line.

Most vehicles are licensed aircraft known car models or Formula 1 racing cars. One part is also produced as merchandising for Disney or similar specializing in children and adolescents corporations and markets.
