Caspar Othmayr

Caspar Othmayr (* March 12, 1515 in Amberg, † February 4, 1553 in Nuremberg ) was a German Protestant clergyman, theologian and composer.

Othmayr studied in Heidelberg among others Lorenz Lemlin and was rector of the monastery school of Heilsbronn at Ansbach. From 1548 he was provost in Ansbach, the place lost but soon because of theological differences.

Othmayr is considered one of the best masters of the song set to the middle of the 16th century. The most important works he wrote 1545-1550. 1546 appeared his lament on the death of Luther Lutheran epitaph. His works are found in numerous collections of his time, such as in Georg Forster's Fresh teutschen little song.
