Castle Forbes

Castle Forbes is a country house dating from the 19th century in the style of Scottish Baronials near Alford in Aberdeenshire, Scotland.

The 2400 -acre estate in the Vale of Alford was the home of Forbes for more than 600 years. Originally called the local building Putachie. The present castle above the River Don was built in 1815 by the 17th Lord Forbes to drawings of the architect John Paterson, Archibald Simpson and John Smith.

Today there lives Malcolm Forbes, 23rd Lord Forbes and his wife Jinny, operate a hotel there. The estate offers opportunities for fishing, and in the vicinity Golf can be played. 1996, a dairy has been converted into a small perfumery. The castle is a listed building in the Kagegorie B. There is on the premises a historic stone circle dating from around 3000 BC, in which nowadays burials are performed.
