Castlecary Castle

Castlecary Castle is a tower house near the Scottish village Castlecary in the unitary authority Falkirk. In 1972, the building was added to the Scottish lists of monuments in the highest category A.

History

There are suspicions that the location of Castlecary Castle at the end of the 13th century was a fortress or moth. In the second half of the 15th century, the lands came into the possession of Henry Livingston of Middilbyning, who built the castle around 1485. In a document from 1491, when the lands passed into the possession of his son Patrick, the Tower House is listed as a new building. Patrick was the person who used the appellation " of Castlecary ". The lands were inherited through generations within the family. The line died with Harry Livingston of Castlecary out in 1657 and the lands passed into the possession of the Baillie family.
