Castlecary

Castlecary is a village on the eastern edge of the Scottish Unitary Authority North Lanarkshire on the border with Falkirk. It is located about ten kilometers east of Falkirk and 22 kilometers west of Glasgow. The nearest town is four kilometers away, Cumbernauld. The small regional airport Cumbernauld Airport is located 1.5 km to the west.

History

The Antonine Wall runs over the local area Castlecarys. At the beginning of the 20th century, the remains of a Roman fort were unearthed there. To the east lies the Tower house Castle Castlecary. It is believed that since the end of the 13th century was a fortress or moth to its location. Castlecary Castle finally was established in 1485th It is now classified as a monument of the highest category A.

Once the points of traditional Scottish county of Stirlingshire Castlecary extended eastward to the present unitary authority Falkirk. The village, however, was divided and the eastern part is now known as Allandale. 1971 lived 284 persons in Castlecary. This was a population increase from 158 residents a decade earlier.
