Cumbernauld
Cumbernauld is a planned city in North Lanarkshire, Scotland, founded in 1956, when Glasgow was suffering from overpopulation. Its population in 2001 was 49,664 inhabitants, making it the eighth largest city in Scotland.
Name
The name comes from Cumbernauld Gaelic " Comar nan allt ", which means as much as " between the waters". In fact, is the place between the rivers Clyde and Forth.

Famous architects such as the offices of Gillespie, Kidd & Coia and Geoffrey Copcutt were involved in the planning of buildings. Thus may be mentioned inter alia:

Parks
Cumbernauld Cumbernauld House Park and Glen are in the population as relaxing green space amid the bustling city center. Here are also native animal and plant species such as badgers, woodpeckers and meadows full of bluebells. The park is managed ( Friends of Cumbernauld House Park ) from North Lanarkshire Council together with the friends of the park. Cumbernauld Glen is regarded as a game reserve and managed by the Scottish Wildlife Trust and looked after.

Cumbernauld is connected by a twinning with Bron in France.
