Iceland Castle ( Irish: Oileán Chiarraí ) is a town in County Kerry in the southwest of Ireland.

The place

Castle Iceland, spoken like Castle Iceland, got its name from a 1226 built " Castle of the Iceland of Kerry ". The place is known by the width of its main street, which is exceeded in Ireland only from O'Connell Street in Dublin.

The city is located 13 km east of Tralee, the county seat of the county Kerry, and had the Census 2006 population of 2170 people. The Breton Bannalec is twinned.

Transport links

Castle Iceland lies at the southern end of the National Road N21, the (first as N20) leads to County Kerry Limerick City Newcastle West. In Iceland the Castle N21 bends to Tralee while the N23 continues to N22 to Killarney and Macroom continues to Cork City. The position as an "outpost " on the way to the western and southern Kerry has also introduced the name Gateway to Kerry Castle Iceland.

On the rail transport in Ireland, the city is no longer connected.

Sight

With the until 1983 Crag Cave Castle has discovered Iceland one of the largest limestone caves in Ireland, which covers just under 4 km below the city. About one- tenth of that is public ( out ) accessible and is visited annually by thousands of visitors.
