Castleton State College

The Castleton State College is a public university in Castleton in the west of the U.S. state of Vermont. At the university about 2000 students are enrolled. It is a so-called liberal arts college. The college is part of the network of the Vermont State Colleges.

History

The university was founded in 1787 on the initiative of the Vermont General Assembly and is according to Harvard University ( 1636), Yale University ( 1701), Brown University ( 1764) and Dartmouth College ( 1769), the fifth oldest university in New England. 1867, the body responsible for teacher training college in State Normal School was renamed. In 1947 again renamed in Castleton Teachers College. In 1962, she finally joined the network of the Vermont State Colleges.

Sports

The sports teams of the University of the Spartans call themselves. The Castle State College is a member of the North Atlantic Conference and the Eastern College Athletic Conference ( ECAC). As of 2009, the university will also run a football team.
