Catamenia (band)

Catamenia is a black metal band from Oulu in Finland.

Band History

Catamenia was founded in 1995 by Riku Hopeakoski and Mika Tonning in Oulu. That same year they recorded their first demo and Sampo Ukkola, Timo Lehtinen, Toni Tervo and Heidi Riihinen joined the band at. In 1996, she recorded the second demo Winds to them in 1997 a contract for four albums under the label Massacre Records earned.

In the Commusication studios in Germany, the first album Halls of Frozen North was recorded, which was released in 1998. This was followed by 1999 's second album Morning Crimson and EP Shape Edition, which were included in the Swedish Sunlight Studios. After the recordings Toni Tervo and Sampo Ukkola left the band and were replaced by Sir Luttinen and Ari Nissilä.

In 2000 they created the next album Eternal Winter 's Prophecy in Kemi. 2001 then ended Heidi Riihinen and Sir Luttinen their collaboration with the band, the new drummer was Janne Kuzmin and Riku Hopeakoski took over the position on the keyboard.

In 2002, she recorded their fourth album Eskhata in Oulu. It was released in the same year; the contract with Massacre Records was extended for three more albums due to the good cooperation.

During the recording sessions for the fifth album the band program was characterized again by member changes. Janne Kuzmin left the band. Newly arrived Veikko Jumisko and Tero Nevala. The resulting album in February 2003 ChaosBorn was for them to succeed. However, subsequent disagreements had the exit of co-founder and singer Mika Tonning and bassist Timo Lehtinen result. On 26 February 2010 came the next album Cavalcade in the trade. In 2010 it was on the band website that Ari, Toni, and Kari Mikko left the band because of their own projects and other reasons. They were replaced by the returnees Mikko Hepo - oja as a bassist, guitarist Sauli Jauhiainen and drummer Tony Qvick.

27 April 2012 appeared with The Rewritten Chapters a best-of album with new recordings of previous songs.

Style

Catamenia play fast and melodic Black Metal. The songs feature catchy melodies and switch between mid-tempo and very fast parts. The guitar is sometimes evocative of old Satyricon recordings. In this case, the keyboard plays a significant Part In more recent albums occur among other elements of the Finnish folk such as Men's choirs.
