Catharina Halkes

Catharina ( Tine ) Joanna Maria Halkes (also: Tine Govaart - Halkes; born July 2, 1920 in Vlaardingen, † April 21, 2011 in Nijmegen) was a Dutch Roman Catholic theologian.

Halkes studied Dutch at the Rijksuniversiteit Leiden and worked as a Dutch teacher in Breda. Later she studied Theology and Pastoral Theology at the Catholic Theological University of Utrecht and at the Katholieke Universiteit Nijmegen.

Halkes became known as a member of the Eighth - May movement, a critical movement within the Dutch Catholic Church in the 1980s.

Also known Halkes was as representative of feminist theology and as a prominent member of the Catholic Women's Movement. Halkes was from 1983 to 1986, the first holder of a chair of feminism and Christianity in the Netherlands at the Katholieke Universiteit Nijmegen, where she worked as a researcher since 1967. In 1982 she was awarded an honorary doctorate from Yale University. It is regarded as one of the essential co-founder of the feminist theology.
