Edward Schillebeeckx

Edward Schillebeeckx, OP ( born November 12, 1914 in Antwerp, † December 23, 2009 in Nijmegen) was a Belgian Dominican and Roman Catholic theologian.

Life

Edward Schillebeeckx was a member of the Congregation of the Dominicans, and taught Dogmatic Theology at the Catholic University of Leuven and Nijmegen ( 1958-1983 ). As a personal consultant of the Dutch Cardinal Bernard Alfrink he was in the Second Vatican Council. His works have been translated into many languages.

Schillebeeckx studied in Leuven. In the postwar period his further studies took him to Paris in contact with his Yves Congar Ordensmitbrüdern and Marie -Dominique Chenu. He has greatly influenced the younger theology of the Dutch-Flemish -speaking world with his continuation of the Nouvelle Théologie and represented an anthropocentric Christology.

In recent decades, he continued to support critical of the church apart.
