Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels

The Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels (English Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels ) in Los Angeles is the bishop's church of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Los Angeles. It was built between 1999 and 2002 according to plans by the Spanish architect José Rafael Moneo.

Building

The Cathedral of sand-colored concrete is in the north of downtown Los Angeles adjacent to the Santa Ana Freeway. It has a total length of 120.62 meters and holds 3,000 people. The patronal feast takes the name of the city on (Spanish: Los Angeles: " the angels ").

About the Portal Robert Graham created the monumental statue " Our Lady of the Angels". From the input side and the highway from the central cross is visible, which is designed as a huge concrete sculpture in alabaster windows of the altar area. At night, this cross is illuminated.
