St Peter's Cathedral is among the churches with a pronounced kink axis. For this deviation from the straight line, there are many different models of explanation, but none as sure of which may be accepted. One explanation is that the cathedral was built at the beginning instead of or on the foundations of another church and we took as the extension of the church to the surrounding urban conditions.

In addition, the construction of a second steeple was evidently intended. This is particularly important to recognize the asymmetric construction if you look up on the long side on the building in front of the main entrance.
