Catheux

Catheux is a commune of 118 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Oise in the Picardie region; it belongs to the district Beauvais and Canton Crèvecœur -le -Grand. Here arises the river Celle.

History

In the 19th century sarcophagi were discovered from the Merovingian time in connection with the laying of the railway line on the municipality whose exact location was not recorded. A clearly visible Motte also points to a settlement since at least the early Middle Ages.

In the Middle Ages Catheux had an important castle, which belonged to the county of Breteuil beginning of the 12th century; the rule Catheux was raised in the 16th century the Barony and the Marquisat de Thoix connected. From the Picard word for castle ( cateau ) the place takes its name.

From Catheux comes Jean Le Féron, a leader of the jacquerie. The castle was destroyed in connection with this uprising. A reconstruction of the period around 1788 was demolished in 1827.
