The Catholic University of Lyon (French Université catholique de Lyon ) is a university in by the Catholic Church in Lyon, France.

The University was founded on the initiative of lay Catholics in 1875 and inaugurated in 1877. This was made possible by the law on the freedom of university teaching from July 12, 1875, as a consequence, the four other Catholic institutions of higher education in France were created.

6500 students, including 1300 foreigners, visit the University, (, science of law, economics and social sciences, philosophy and the humanities, theology, literature and languages) is divided into five faculties and the six specialized colleges ( écoles Supérieures ) and four associated engineering schools belong.

The traditional campus near the Place Bellecour in 2005 was accompanied by another campus in the Place Carnot.
