Caxixi

Caxixi [ kaʃiʃi ] is a rattle, which is woven from raffia and filled with pebbles or seeds. In the bottom of Caxixi a calabash disc is incorporated. The Caxixi is moved up and down or rotated, so that the content meets either the calabash or on the braid and depending on the heard a high, sharp or soft, deep sound when playing.

It is traditionally used in Capoeira in Brazil along with the berimbau. Today it is used as an effect tool in other styles of music. Here also two Caxixi different size are combined, so that more complex rhythms are possible.
