ÄŒD Class 680

ČD series 680 is a seven-part electrical tilting trainset of the Czech railway company České Railways ( ČD ). Technically, he is the type of Alstom Pendolino. The trains under the brand name Super City Pendolino train type and provide the highest quality of ČD dar.

History

Decided in 1995 ČD to introduce a high-quality long-distance train on the route Berlin- Prague-Vienna. The required features should initially provide a consortium of Czech rail vehicle manufacturers CKD and Moravskoslezská VAGONKA and Siemens Transportation Systems and the tilting technology specialists Fiat Ferroviaria.

In June 2003, the first prototype of the Fiat successor Alstom has been delivered. There were then a few teething problems that have been resolved in a two-year trial period. By 2005, the production trainsets were delivered. As the price of the trains was significantly higher than originally planned, only seven trainsets were purchased instead of the planned ten. Overall, the trains cost CZK 4.5 billion (approx. € 180 million).

Since January 2005, the trains operated in the forward mode on the routes from Prague to Ostrava and Decin. In January 2006, the trains had to be shut again due in part to serious technical problems. After elimination of the defects, the trains since then schedule a regular service ..

Use

Since December 2005, the trains will be used as Super City Pendolino between Prague and Ostrava in an approximate two- hour intervals. On the 358 km long route that handled the train in under three hours, frequented the winter of 2005 /06 a total of six pairs of trains, most of which were formed from two units. Since the timetable change in December 2006 to December 2009 reversed two pairs of trains between Prague and Vienna, both now run again with a ÖBB 1216 and long-distance car.
