The CAMPATH - 1 antigen ( CD52 ) is a surface protein expressed on mature lymphocytes, which although is also found on epithelial cells of the male genital tract, but is highly specific for lymphocytes. For this reason, it is the target for the antibody alemtuzumab, which is used to treat chronic lymphocytic leukemia and other diseases in which lymphocytes are pathologically altered. The reason for the high level of specificity and effectiveness of the antibody is not known.

The protein portion of CD52 is a 12 amino acid peptide that is cleaved from a 61 amino acid long propeptide and bound to carbohydrates to a surface glycoprotein. Its amino acid sequence:
