Celebration of Light

Celebration of Light (German celebration of light) is an international competition of fireworks artists, which takes place every summer for two weeks (usually the last of July and the first week of August ). It is the world's largest event of its kind

The event takes place in the English Bay against the Canadian city of Vancouver, on four evenings each clock at 22:00 instead, over a period of two weeks. Three to four companies representing their country and show an under painted with musical performance of 25 minutes in length, which will be assessed by a jury. Each group has two days to make the necessary preparations. The fireworks are fired from cargo ships that lie at anchor in the bay. The conclusion of the event is the grand finale, in which all participants are involved. The performances will be watched by an average of 1.6 million viewers who gather on the beaches or on hills.

The first performance of this kind was held in 1990 under the name Symphony of Fire. At that time was the main sponsor Benson & Hedges. In 2000, the continued existence of the event was at risk because a new law prohibiting sponsorship by tobacco companies. Since then, HSBC is the new main sponsor.
