Celera Corporation

The Celera Corporation is a US-based company, which in May 1998 by the PE Corporation (now Applera Corporation) and Craig Venter, a genome researcher and founder of the Institute for Genomic Research (TIGR ), was founded. The company was founded to collect by DNA sequencing information about genomes and commercialize them.

In 1998, Craig Venter announced that he wanted the entire human genome faster and cheaper than decipher the human genome project. Shotgun method should be used for sequencing. 2000, the preliminary results were finally published, after which 96 % of the human genome has been decoded.
