Cello Concerto No. 1 (Haydn)

The Cello Concerto No.1 in C major ( Hob VIIb: 1) by Joseph Haydn was probably composed around 1762-1765 for his friend Joseph Franz Weigl, who was the first cellist of Prince Esterhazy at that time. The instrumentation of the orchestra is relatively small with two oboes, two horns and strings; also a basso is advertised. The game lasts about 25 minutes.

Background

The work was lost until 1961, until the musicologist Oldrich Pulkert found a copy in the Prague National Museum.
